What A Season! 2016/17: #Best Shred Season Ever! Watch the video above, and check out a few of the many 2016/17 ski season highlight from Banff Sunshine Village. Now, as we transition to summer, we reflect on the amazingness that was winter 2016/17. The 2016/17 Banff Sunshine Village Ski Season will go down in our history books as one of the best seasons ever. For us, the shred season started early. After receiving a ridiculous amount of snow late October, we made the decision to open two weeks early. On November 3rd, we opened with fresh turns for all. Within a few days, we had all of our lifts (except Goat's Eye open), and on the 15th of November, we opened Delirium Dive. Throughout the mountain, we began to call November 2016 "Snowvember." Lucky for us, Mother Nature turned Snowvember into one of the best snow seasons we've had. The big snow of November continued throughout the winter. For many, 2016/17 is referred to as "the season of refillable powder." Then came March, and the 200 plus centimeters of snow it brought. In the month of March, powder days were the norm. Of the 31 ski days in March 29 were powder days. With all the snow Ullr was gifting us, our Snow Safety team was able to open The Wild West for the first time in several years on March 9th. As the season transitioned to spring, more snow fell. Our 2017 Spring Season was winter skiing good. The big snow helped us in building the first every Canadian Holy Bowly. Holy Bowly arrived at Sunshine April 17th. The event brought over 200 top pro snowboarders to Banff Sunshine for a week of filming. We had fun watching the pros create lines in the skate-inspired terrain park. As other resorts started to close, we at Banff Sunshine were just getting into our spring flow. Throughout April the snow continued. Our biggest dump of the year occurred April 23rd. The storm brought over 30 cm to our slopes. In May, thanks to our excellent conditions we saw the return of the Canadian National Ski Teams, as well as a group of female pro snowboarders, come to train and shoot at Banff Sunshine Village. On May 22nd, our season wrapped with our 89th Annual Slush Cup. For all our Sunshiners looking to secure their 2017/18 season pass, we'll be launching our passes this week.
