It Takes A Village: A Day In The Sunshine Village Gondola It Takes A Village, to Run Our World Class Village! The Banff Sunshine Village Gondola is the lifeline of Sunshine Village and is our primary mode of transportation. Every skier, team member, a piece of luggage, pop bottle, chicken wing, ski, and snowboard makes it’s way to the village via our eight passenger gondola. Built in 2001, The Banff Sunshine Village Gondola has the capability of transporting 2800 skiers per hour, with the cable moving at a speed of 6 meters per second. Our colorful gondola carries skiers (and whatever else) 4.5 km from the parking lot to the top station. To run, maintain, and safely load both guests and cargo on to our gondola, a team of gondola operators, gondola mechanics, and gondola supervisors are required. According to the gondola team, “while we have the most difficult task- waking up extra early to start the gondola we also have the best and most rewarding job on the mountain. We get to interact with every guest and department at Sunshine Village.” Learn more about a day in the life of our gondola, check out the video.
