Sunshine Village is calling on skiers to register for a race close to the hearts of many people in the snow sport industry.
The fifth Rob Bosinger Memorial weekend is being held at the ’Shine the weekend of April 30 in honour of Rob Bosinger, a dynamic young skier who loved ski racing and volunteering his time to support the sport he loved.
“This event is truly a fitting way to honour Rob Bosinger,” said Doug Firby, director of communications for Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort. “And, in a short period of time, it’s grown into a significant event.”
The three-day event takes place from April 30 to May 2, and features the BoZo Cup race on May 1. It was named in honour of Bosinger, who died suddenly five years ago of a heart condition. Bosinger’s father, Fred, was a long-time employee of Sunshine Village, so the event is an important way to honour the family.
Funds raised over the weekend support the Canadian Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome (SADS) Foundation, and a perpetual ski training scholarship for a K2 female and a K2 male athlete with Alberta Alpine.
Rob Bosinger – known affectionately as “BoZo” by his close friends – was heavily involved in the Canadian ski community: he was an alumnus of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team, a Canadian national ski Team coach, an Alberta Alpine K2 coach, and had a love for ski racing – especially head-to-head style, which is featured in a few of the BoZo Cup’s races.
Bosinger helped found the Head to Head Race Series at Sunshine Village 12 years ago.
